The course does not require previous knowledge of Arabic. The course has two modules: language proficiency 1 and language proficiency 2. Language proficiency elements such as grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking are integrated into both modules. In language proficiency 1, students are introduced to the Arabic alphabet and writing system. Students read basic texts in Arabic and write short texts in Arabic. Language proficiency 2 builds on the skills students acquired in module 1. Students engage in structured and free writing practice as well as further training in pronunciation and listening comprehension. In both module 1 and 2, students reflects on their learning with reference to current research, and they work critically with machine-translation tools.
