How and why international conflicts develop and are solved depends on the prevailing international order. Theoretically, this order can be conceived between a distinctly anarchic system and a well-developed international society. Different international orders (structures, norms, institutions) provide different opportunities and grounds for legitimacy for different forms of international power. The aim of this course is to provide a deeper understanding of this interplay between power, order, and conflict in international politics. The course highlights central concepts and theories as well as contemporary examples of international conflict.

Political Science or other relevant main field of study, 30 ECTS credits, basic course, with at least 22.5 ECTS credits passed or equivalent. English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 or Engelska nivå 2). Exemption from Swedish.
