<p>The course gives you knowledge of SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure); goals and concepts, the importance of data exchange and understanding of the components of an SDI. You will also learn about, among other things, clearinghouse networks, geoportals and the evaluation and development of SDIs. The course also provides an understanding of the importance of spatial data for planning, decision-making and sustainable development.</p><p>In this course, students will explore theoretical and practical concepts of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs). They will study fundamental concepts of SDI and the important factors that affect the development of SDI. Furthermore, techniques for design, implementation, management, and evaluation of SDIs will be explored. This course also includes practical and theoretical exercises relevant to current status of spatial data management and sharing, development of clearinghouse networks, SDI evaluation, and spatially enabled-society.</p> <p>Course content</p> <p>The following topics are included in the course:</p> <p>Existing status for spatial data</p> <p>SDI components and their nature</p> <p>Factors that influence the SDI development</p> <p>Clearinghouses of different generations</p> <p>Inter-operability and International standards</p> <p>Introduction to service composition</p> <p>Cartographic aspects of geo-portals</p> <p>SDI modelling and evaluation</p> <p>The spatial activated the society ("spatial-enabled society")</p>

Behörighet

Entry to the course requires general entry requirements, English B/6 and 90 credits scientific studies, including 30 credits in GIS. Equivalent knowledge acquired in a different way, also gives admission to the course.
