<p>This course helps you understand how Poland’s modern history is reflected in its literature and culture. By exploring key works from 1939 to today, you gain insight into the major events, social changes, and ideas that shaped today's Poland.</p><p>This course offers an introduction to Polish literature and culture from 1939 to the present, using a wide range of materials including fragments of novels, short stories, poems, films, YouTube excerpts, and blogs.</p><p> Structured around four thematic modules, the course begins with a historical overview and then examines literature in relation to two decisive historical experiences: war and communism. It concludes with a focus on the contemporary moment and current cultural expressions.</p><p> The course treats Polish literature as a case study for understanding broader European cultural, social, and political transformations. By engaging with these varied texts, students gain a deeper understanding of the processes that have shaped Poland’s cultural and national identity, as well as how these developments resonate within the wider European context.</p>
