<p>In this advanced-level course, you will study and discuss the history and development of the English language. You will also learn about language change in general and the factors behind it.</p><p>The course provides an overview of the development of English from Proto-Indo-European to modern English. Together with teaching staff members and fellow students, you will familiarise yourself with current research literature dealing with changes in the English language. You will examine changes in the sound system, morphology, syntax and vocabulary, as well as their background in historical events and periods in the English-speaking world.</p>
