This course offers an introduction to methods of creative writing in English. Specifically, the course aims to develop the student’s approach to some of the main elements of craft in poetry (e.g., metaphor, sound, structure) and short fiction (e.g., characterization, plot, dialogue). The course accomplishes this through a series of lectures, generative seminars, and workshops. In addition to writing their own poetry and short fiction, students will also develop their ability to “read as a writer” by analyzing published poems and short stories.
