The Environmental Crisis and Societal Change

The course offers basic understanding of the societal causes of environmental problems, their social distributions in relation to e.g. social classes, gender, and income inequalities as well as our social sense-making of the environmental crisis. It also provides a basic understanding of the conditions for societal change. From this basic understanding course participants will explore how the environmental crisis compels us to consider the role of science and expertise in relation to democratic values such as equality and public involvement. Through a case-based approach the course elaborates on the barriers as well as opportunities for societal change and sustainable solutions to the environmental crisis.
