The course examines the Cervantes’ era in literary, historical and social contexts, focusing on how Don Quixote brings a new approach to literature that has subsequently had a major influence on world literature as the forerunner of the modern novel. The course provides an insight into the current historical and socio-cultural contexts, focusing on the transition from Renaissance to Baroque and on current literary trends and genres (the chivalric, picaresque novel (pícaro), etc.), as well as insight into modern literary theory and concepts (such as “ingenio”).
