The course is aimed at solving physics problems in electrodynamics, quantum physics, theoretical mechanics and solid state physics by computer calculations. The numerical methods are: Fast Fourier Transform, reduction of a symmetric matrix to tridiagonal form, eigenvalues and eigenvectors to a tridiagonal matrix. Methods to solve ordinary differential equations: Runge Kutta, Leap frog, Richardson extrapolation, Bulirsch-Stoer, Predictor-Corrector. Two-point boundary value problems.

Behörighet

90 credits including Analytical Mechanics, Foundations of Electromagnetics, Quantum Mechanics 1 and Modelling and Simulation or equivalent. Proficiency in English and Swedish equivalent to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies. Requirements for Swedish only apply if the course is held in Swedish.
