It is sometimes said that we live in a post-secular age, and that questions regarding religion and politics have a new urgency. What resources can theology provide for interpreting modern society and its history? This course considers the interplay between religion and the development of the secular political order, philosophical and theological arguments for and against faith-based political engagement, the political role of churches, the philosophical and anthropological presuppositions of politics, and theology’s critical potential.
