The aim of the course is to introduce the basic concepts of consciousness as well as the historical and philosophical background of the scientific study of consciousness. Then this knowledge is applied to modern neuropsychological studies of consciousness, such as neglect, blind sight, and split-brain. The aim of the seminar discussion groups is to induce active small-group discussions on fundamental questions in the study of consciousness. Each student will learn more about a particular topic of interest and give a brief presentation of it in the group.
