What are the fundamental principles that we follow when we communicate? How do speech and writing differ? In what ways do various aspects of the context affect people’s language use? These are the core questions addressed in this course on discourse analysis focusing on English. Exploring a variety of approaches to discourse, students will study language beyond the sentence level and analyze how it is used for specific purposes in naturally-occurring discourse.

Entry requirements

90 credits in English, of which 30 credits in English at First cycle level 2, including the course English: Bachelor Degree Thesis in Linguistics, 15 credits, or equivalent knowledge
