The course offers an overview of Japanese haiku poetry, its history and main concepts. Students read, analyse and interpret a large number of both modern as well as classical poems. To put these in a historical and cultural context, literary and theoretical texts on haiku and haiku aesthetics are read and discussed. In addition, students practice the art of writing haiku poetics.
Entry requirements
Japanese III: Language Proficiency, 15 credits, Japanese III: The Modern Short Story, 7.5 credits and Japanese III: Reading Manga, 7.5 credits
