In this course, some of the key concepts of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics, which are used to describe the Japanese language, are studied. The students also reflect on how such knowledge is obtained through the study of language acquisition and historical linguistics. In addition, related areas as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and the writing systems, are discussed.
