Education facts

Code: GEG3DV

This course deals with theoretical foundations, technologies, and applications of renewable energy systems, with a focus on wind and hydropower, as well as supporting technologies such as hydrogen storage and electric vehicles (EVs). Designed to meet the growing need for sustainable energy solutions, the course covers challenges for integrating such solutions into energy systems in Sweden and globally as well as examples of how to address these challenges. Core topics include the physics of wind and hydropower generation, turbine design, operation, and grid connectivity. The course also includes technical configurations of wind turbines and hydropower plants, as well as the role of power electronics and control systems in ensuring stable, efficient power production. Hydrogen and EV battery systems for enhancing renewable energy integration are also covered, with a focus on improving system reliability and flexibility. Design, evaluation and communication of small-scale renewable energy projects are facilitated through a combination of theoretical lectures, seminars, and project work activities. A literature review on emerging hydrogen or EV technologies serves to prepare students for further research and professional applications in renewable energy.
