I kursen fördjupas kunskap om de vetenskapsteoretiska utgångspunkter som olika former av datainsamling och analys vilar på. Studenten möter metoder för datainsamling samt grundläggande och fördjupande statistiska metoder för bearbetning och analys av kvantitativt datamaterial. Kvantitativa data samlas in, bearbetas, analyseras och tolkas. Resultatet av detta arbete presenteras muntligt och skriftligt på ett tydligt och relevant sätt enligt vetenskapliga principer. Etiska aspekter på datainsamling och kunskapsproduktion diskuteras.
