I kursen ges en introduktion till samhällsplaneringens idéhistoria, planeringsverksamhetens utveckling i Sverige, olika hållbarhetsperspektiv, samtida planeringspraktik, samt lagar och förordningar som reglerar planering. Studenten introduceras också i rollen som samhällsplanerare samt i att kunna relatera till olika perspektiv på planering. Kursen ger också en introduktion till kunskapsteori och forskningsetik.
