<p>This course explores the constant evolution of our planet through complex interactions involving energy, materials, and life processes, including human influence. The course begins by examining how we conceptualize and describe Earth as a system, shaping our perception of global environmental challenges Additionally, it focuses on fundamental biogeochemical processes, including natural cycles, feedback mechanisms, regulation, and sustainability.&nbsp;</p><h3>Understanding earth's processes and interconnections</h3><p>Throughout the course, we critically analyze these processes and their intricate interactions in the context of global environmental changes and their connection to sustainability challenges. We investigate the consequences of viewing Earth as a system and how this impacts our understanding of global environmental issues. Subsequently, we scrutinize biogeochemical processes and their underlying structures, exploring the driving forces behind environmental changes and the relationships between global biogeochemical processes and sustainability challenges. Finally, we conduct a critical evaluation of research designs and methodologies employed to study these biogeochemical processes and environmental changes.&nbsp;</p><h3>For those interested in global sustainability&nbsp;</h3><p>This course primarily caters to environmental science students but is open to individuals with a similar academic background interested in gaining essential knowledge to effectively address complex sustainability challenges and contribute to a sustainable future. It provides a unique profile that can open doors to exciting career opportunities.&nbsp;</p><h3>Teaching and language&nbsp;</h3><p>The course includes lectures, laboratory sessions, seminars, group projects, and individual written assignments. 150 credits of which 90 credits with progressive deepening within one main field of study. English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 or Engelska nivå 2). Exemption from Swedish
