How and why international conflicts develop and are resolved depends on the prevailing international order. Theoretically, we can imagine this order on a scale between a distinctly anarchic system and a developed international society. Different international orders (structures, norms, institutions) give different scope and legitimacy to different forms of international power. This course aims to create a deeper understanding of this interaction between power, order and conflict in international politics. The course covers central concepts and theories as well as (current) examples of international conflicts.

Political Science, 30 ECTS credits, basic course, with at least 22.5 ECTS credits passed or equivalent
