Focus on Scandinavian and Swedish film

During this course we study film both as a mainstream culture inspired by Hollywood and as a regional and national alternative. We also look at the role of cinema for the development of Scandinavian modernity and discuss the work of Scandinavian directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Lars von Trier and Lukas Moodysson. Instead of merely looking at the films from an Anglo-American perspective, we will ask: How can we perceive Scandinavian and Swedish Film in relation to other world cinemas?
