This course deals with imperial dominance and resistance and their role in the making of the modern world. You will be introduced to causes and consequences of modern imperialism and colonialism from the 15th century until the present, with particular attention to the period from the mid-18th century until the end of the first World War. The course has a special focus on theories of imperialism and questions of inequality, violence, borderlands, gender, race and cilivisation. Course coordinator: Preedee Hongsaton

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for studies at the second level and 90 credits in the humanities or social sciences (including an independent project of at least 15 credits). English 6 or the equivalent
