International Small-scale Forestry 1 gives forest owners and professionals basic forestry terminology and concepts. It introduces the forest owner/manager to knowledge how to manage the forest for different purposes. The course has three two-day excursions at Talsi, Madona and Jelgava in Latvia. The excursions form the start of each course module. After an excursion, the participants go home and study on their own, supported by Internet-based session for lectures and questions. The study rate is 25% in a studying concept called blended learning, in that we combine lectures, self-studies and excursions, but most of the time, participants study at home. For this you need calliper, height measurer, relascope, and taper, since you will conduct tasks based in the forest. You also need computer/tablet and Internet connection. Education is free of charge but participants pay for additional cost like travels, accommodation and literature.
