Are you interested to know how the material does behave when it is subjected to variable loads, and how to dimension against fatigue? It is known that 80-90% of the mechanical failures are due to fatigue fractures. Are you curious to know how machine parts or mechanical structures are affected by impact loading , for example when a pallet falls down and hit the roof of the truck cabin during the time truck deriver is trying to put the pallet on a shelf? Would you like to know how to dimension screws and bolts when they are subjected to static or dynamic loads? For example, how to dimension the bolts to keep on place the propeller blades in a wind mall? Maybe you would like to know how to calculate welded joints when it is subjected to different types of loads? All that plus how to design to avoid surface damages are going to be treated in this course.

Entry requirements

15 credits Mathematics and 45 credits within the subject Mechanical Engineering where 1MT003 Solid mechanics is included, or similar.
