This course provides a more in¬-depth analysis of the complex linkages between peace, conflict, development and human security, including major theoretical debates on violence, responses to armed conflicts, sustainable development, good governance and political aspects of peace and development, among others. Theories explaining the causes of conflict are related to different conflict transformation strategies. Students will also discuss the actors, mechanisms and policies within the international development work that promote democracy and political development. They study different dimensions of sustainable development and analyze strategies for poverty reduction. The semester finishes with an experiential research methods module where students cooperate to develop, implement and analyze a survey on a peace and development topic.
