Code: KEMB29

KEMB29. The course gives basic knowledge of physical chemistry in the field of spectroscopy and dynamics. The applications of the fields in natural sciences will be studied. The course includes laboratory part, which gives both experimental and theoretical experience in spectroscopy and dynamics.

Course contents

The course consists of two parts. The first part deals with various spectroscopic methods, which can be used to study molecular properties. The second part of the course provides basics in chemical dynamics. This includes introduction to the differential equations, which describe various chemical reactions. The molecular grounds for elementary chemical dynamics will be studied. As an example the Marcus theory of electron transfer and the Förster theory of excitation energy transfer will be presented and compared. The course contains both experimental and computer-based laboratory work.

General eligibility and knowledge corresponding to KEMA20 Chemistry: General Chemistry, 15 credits, KEMA01 Organic Chemistry - Basic Course, 7,5 credits, KEMA03 Biochemistry - Basic Course, 7.5 credits, KEMB09 Physical Chemistry - Basic Course, 15 credits, and MATA02 Mathematics for Scientists, 15 credits.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
