This course offers a historical and international perspective on gender roles, employment and social change - highlighting the Scandinavian experience.</p><p>How have work and family structures changed over time - and what makes the Scandinavian model unique? This course examines long-term trends in gender equality, labour market participation and family life, with a focus on how these developments have shaped modern society.</p><p>You’ll explore the rise of dual-income households, shifting parental roles and the changing division of labour within families. The course highlights how Scandinavian countries have led the way in combining work and family life, and how these changes compare to developments in other parts of Europe and the United States.</p><p>Through a mix of theory and empirical examples, you’ll gain insight into the social and economic forces behind this “quiet revolution.” Topics include fertility, education, time use, income inequality and policy design. The course also discusses how other countries can learn from the Scandinavian experience.<br/></p>
