<p>Explore medieval and early modern Latin through close reading of key texts. Develop advanced interpretative skills while gaining insight into the literary traditions, cultural contexts, and scholarly methods that shaped Latin beyond Antiquity.</p><p>This course is held on master’s level and offers specialized study of medieval and Neo-Latin prose and poetry through close engagement with selected texts in critical editions. You will explore how Latin evolved after antiquity and how it functioned as a literary and cultural language across different historical contexts. </p><p>The course introduces you to central works that reflect the diversity of post-classical Latin in terms of genre, style, and subject matter. You will also gain insight into how texts were transmitted, edited, and interpreted, and how they relate to broader intellectual and cultural traditions. </p><p>In addition, the course develops your understanding of philological theory and methodology, with a particular focus on approaches relevant to medieval and Neo-Latin literature. By the end of the course, you will be able to read more independently, formulate precise research questions, and situate texts within their historical and scholarly contexts.</p>
Latin: Bachelor course (LATK01) or equivalent.
