Are you curious about how literature reflects and influences society today? This course invites you into the world of contemporary English-language novels, poetry, and plays – and shows how they connect to questions of identity, culture, and history. This course offers both a broad and in-depth understanding of contemporary English-language literature. You’ll read works from various genres – prose, poetry, and drama – and explore how they relate to themes such as gender, ethnicity, class, and nationality. You’ll also learn to apply modern literary theories to analyse and interpret texts in new and meaningful ways. Throughout the course, you’ll develop your ability to see how literature both mirrors and shapes the world around us. You’ll gain tools to analyse texts and discuss them in relation to their cultural and historical contexts.
Admission to the course requires completion of the Level 3 (first cycle) course in English (ENGK01) with literary-critical specialisation or equivalent.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
