Wireless technology impacts how we live, work, and connect. As IoT and massive machine-type communications grow, new challenges arise. This programme prepares engineers to develop next-generation wireless solutions and shape the future of wireless communications.

Future applications, such as real-time wireless control of autonomous vehicles and collaborating machines (Industry 4.0), will introduce new requirements on the reliability and on-time delivery of transmitted data. Sustainable smart cities and the digitalisation of society depend on advanced connected systems, creating many career opportunities for you as a graduate.

Innovation in wireless communications has a long tradition in Lund, including the invention of Bluetooth. The department designed the first fully digital massive MIMO testbed, a technology that has now become a key component of 5G networks. Recently, researchers also developed the first channel sounder for millimeter-wave massive MIMO, further solidifying Lund’s position at the forefront of wireless communication research.

The programme is designed to give you a high-level international education. Focusing on the physical and lower layers of wireless systems, you will gain in-depth system knowledge, and insights into the various components that make up a wireless network.

There are has eight mandatory and four elective courses spread over three semesters. The courses cover aspects of modern wireless communication systems, such as communication theory, signal processing, and machine learning as well as other communication-oriented or project-based courses. The thesis project is conducted in the last semester.
