<p>The course is an elective course at upper basic level within the Bachelor's Programme in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science. The course is given in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Engineering.</p><p>The course treats variational problems with and without constraints, Euler equations with and without constraints, Legendre, Jacobi and Weierstrass necessary condition for local minimum, Hilbert invariant integral and Weierstrass sufficient conditions for strong local minimum, Hamilton's principle and Hamilton's equations, Lagrange and Mayer's problems.</p>

Entry requirements

General and at least 60 credits in mathematics, including courses corresponding to MATB22 Mathematics: Linear Algebra 2, 7.5 credits, MATB21 Mathematics: Analysis in Several Variables 1, 7.5 credits, and MATB23 Mathematics: Analysis in Several Variables 2, 7.5 credits.
