<p>In this course, you will gain a unique insight into the cultural arenas where European film is seen and discussed - from prestigious festivals to critical forums and public discourse. You will explore how the role of film is shaped by political and economic conditions, and how it influences society.</p><p>What happens to a film once it leaves the cinema and enters public discourse? In this course, you will explore the cultural contexts in which European film is presented, discussed, and evaluated - from film festivals and criticism to other arenas of film culture. You will look into how the relationship between film and society is shaped by political, economic, and artistic conditions, and how these influence both production and reception.</p><p>The course is taught in English, delivered online, and is suitable for you who are pursuing a degree or just looking for a stand-alone course to help you understand the role of film in the public sphere.</p>

Entry requirements

General requirements and studies equivalent to Swedish Upper Secondary School courses History 1b or 1a1+1a2/History level 1b or level 1a2 and Social Studies 1b or 1a1+1a2/Social Studies level 1b or level 1a2
