Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why do firms exist? How do laws, rules and social norms emerge? And how do such institutions ¬– the ‘rules of the game’ – affect economic, political, and social interactions between people? The course addresses these interlinked questions. At the micro level, we examine transaction costs, property rights, and contracts to understand how people act and firms are organised. At the macro level, we focus on the interplay between political institutions, power, and economic development.
First-cycle courses of 75 credits in Economics including an independent project of 15 credits. Alternatively, first-cycle courses of 75 credits in Business Administration including an independent project of 15 credits and first-cycle courses of 30 credits in Economics. In addition, successful completion of the course "English 6/English level 2" from the Swedish Upper Secondary School or equivalent is required.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
