The course deals with religion from a historical perspective. The concept of Religion is discussed from a phenomenological point of view. An orientation is provided on the historical growth of the world religions and their sacred writings. The course deals in particular with the Old and New Testament, including their ancient Near Eastern and Graeco-Roman background. Emphasis is on their growth, ideological content as well as political and social circumstances. The course also introduces contemporary interpretations of the Bible and their theological relevance.
