This course treats Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, particle mechanics, generalized coordinates, variational principles, Lagrange’s and Hamilton’s equations, the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, canonical transformations, Poisson brackets, symmetries and conservation laws, small oscillations, rigid body mechanics, the inertia tensor, and Euler’s equations.
Admission to the course requires knowledge equivalent to passed courses (excluding introductory courses) of 45 credits in mathematics and 60 credits in physics. Additionally, admission to the course requires knowledge equivalent to upper secondary school English B/English 6.
