This course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the meaning of various formalisms, as well as principally important criticisms made against them. Formalisms have emerged in a broad field between aesthetics and science. Historically, musical aesthetic formalism was pioneering, but the formalisms that have developed in connection with other art forms display not only similarities but also differences. The course is centred on a selection of classics from different areas, with a focus on common key themes and approaches, as well as differences in approach and ideology.
Bachelor’s degree including a degree project worth at least 15 credits. Swedish upper secondary school course English 6 or equivalent.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
