Kursen behandlar den svenska utbildningspolitiken och dess utbildningsreformer i ett historiskt, läroplansteoretiskt och samhällsvetenskapligt perspektiv. Centralt i kursen är även olika styrningsformer och styrningsmodeller, med särskilt fokus på relationen mellan politiska mål, medel och pedagogisk praktik. Därutöver diskuteras och analyseras synen på kunskap och utbildningens roll i ett globalt perspektiv.
