The course deals with methods for investigating water, gas, soil and sediment, including the statistical analysis of the data and their context-related geoscientific interpretation. The course aims to provide knowledge about methods for sampling water, sediment, soil and rocks; nutrient, redox and acid-base chemistry in various natural aquatic environments; the influence of microorganisms on geochemical processes; field-based in-situ quantification methods; quantification of exchange of gases and solutes substances between soil, sediment, water and the atmosphere; electrochemical, spectrophotometric, chromatographic, and mass spectrometric analytical methods; statistical evaluation of geochemical data. The course consists of lectures and compulsory laboratory and field work. Results are presented and discussed in seminars and presented in written reports.

Entry requirements

Access to the course requires knowledge equivalent to a natural science or technical bachelor's degree, which includes at least 60 credits in geology or earth science, marine geoscience, or environmental science. In addition, 15 credits of geochemistry or 15 credits of chemistry are required. English 6 or equivalent.
