This course is as an introduction to modern Nordic history intended for non-Nordic students. It is recommended that you take this module after studying HI1354, Introduction to Nordic History I. This course introduces key themes in Nordic history from the 18th century to today. It covers the main themes and provides thematic specializations into a few selected areas. Political history, broadly understood, makes up the core: nationalism, democratization, parliamentarianism, Nordic cooperation, foreign policies and welfare developments etc. Both features that characterize the region in its whole and differences between them emerging states will be covered. This approach provides a good basis for comparisons both within the Nordic region and in relation to the wider European setting. The teaching includes a mix of lectures and text-based seminars.
The published source does not provide entry requirements.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
