Kursen ger en orientering i centrala frĂ„gor, problem och Ă€mnen i nutida diskussioner om islam och mellan företrĂ€dare för olika förhĂ„llningssĂ€tt inom islam. Till exempel uppmĂ€rksammas frĂ„gor som rör religionens plats i moderniteten, nytolkning av islams kĂ€llor, muslimsk feminism och genusmedveten korantolkning, frĂ„gan om islams förenlighet med demokrati och andra samtidsrelevanta frĂ„gor. PĂ„ kursen uppmĂ€rksammas ocksĂ„ den fromhetsorienterade eller âmystikaâ tradition inom islam som kallas sufism, och förhĂ„llandet mellan denna och andra strömningar inom islam.
