The course provides an overview of sociological and economic perspectives on growth and the distribution of rewards and resources within the labour markets of advanced industrialized countries. Themes include the development of economic growth, unemployment, and the distribution of incomes in different countries, supply and demand for qualifications on the labour market and the matching between them, the development of inequality in working life along the categories class, gender, and ethnicity, and the effects of globalization on national labour markets. The relation between theoretical models and empirical analyses withing these and similar fields is a primary focus in this course.
