Kursen har som mål att ge kunskaper så att studenten empiriskt och teoretiskt kan redogöra för historiska och aktuella forskningsteman inom socialantropologin, samt kunna relatera dessa teman till mer övergripande teoretiska strömningar. Den ger också teoretiska och praktiska kunskaper om antropologins kännetecknande metoder och deras utveckling. Kursen syftar också till att ge grundläggande färdigheter i hur man genomför ett antropologisk projekt och utvecklar och skriver en kandidatuppsats i antropologi.
