The course covers various experimental techniques of laser spectroscopy, such as Doppler-broadened absorption spectroscopy (including cavity-enhanced and modulation techniques), fluorescence spectroscopy, non-linear spectroscopy, optical frequency comb spectroscopy, and laser cooling and trapping. The course starts with an introduction about the basics of light-matter interactions in the gas phase. Practical aspects of the spectroscopic techniques, such as instrumentation, sensitivity, resolution etc., are discussed. Examples of applications in fundamental research as well as industry, environmental science and medicine are given.
90 credits including Waves and Optics and Quantum Mechanics 1 or equivalent. Proficiency in English and Swedish equivalent to the level required for basic eligibility for higher studies. Requirements for Swedish only apply if the course is held in Swedish.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
