**Build your Biology portfolio this summer!** Would you like to delve into the world of biology this summer and simultaneously earn valuable university credits? Then, this course is perfect for you. Here you will have the opportunity to explore the subject independently, whilst being supported by a learning platform, enabling continuous contact between yourself, teachers and fellow students. The course is concluded with a physical meeting, at which you will have the possibility to network, discuss and make contacts with others who share similar interests in biology. How can some bacteria survive antibiotic treatment while others die? This is one of many questions that will be answered in this basic course in cellular and molecular biology. You will learn about the building blocks of cells and how biological molecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids work together. The course covers membrane structure and how various substances are transported across these membranes. You will gain understanding of cellular organization and how different parts interact. The course also covers the structure of DNA and how genetic information is used in the synthesis of proteins. By understanding the basic functions of cells, we gain a better understanding of its life processes. For the student who would like to take yet another step, this course is well suited for combining with the course *Introduction to Evolution and Ecology*, 7.5 credits BIG021. The two courses run every other year, so that over two summers, you can earn a total of **15 credits in biology**. Let the summer be the time for new knowledge and exciting encounters!
