Education facts

Code: GVG410

The Advanced Petrology course focuses on quantification of metamorphic processes, such as determination of pressure and temperature conditions in metamorphic rocks, construction of pressure-temperature paths and thermodynamic modelling of phase diagrams. It will enable the successful student to apply geothermobarometrical and thermodynamic approaches to geodynamic questions as well as to evaluate thermodynamic data critically.

Entry requirements

For admission to the course, completed courses of at least 165 credits in the main field of Earth Sciences are required of which 90% should be completed with at least pass. Furthermore, a passing grade is required in Bachelor's level courses of Mineralogy 7.5 credits (GVG210), Geochemistry, 7.5 credits (GVG380) and Petrology 7.5 credits (GVG270) or equivalent courses.

Education offerings

Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
