The body plays a central role in art and visual culture – from historical portraits and fashion photography to contemporary performance and exhibition spaces. This course explores how costume and fashion function as artistic and identity-forming expressions, and how they influence and activate the body in images and embodied space. Through theoretical and multisensory perspectives, the course examines the interplay between the dressed body, materiality, and spatiality in art, performance, and visual culture. How do costume and fashion communicate power, status, and identity? How do movement and exhibition design affect the interpretation of visual experiences? The course is designed for students with an interest in art, fashion, scenography, and exhibition design, offering an advanced understanding of how body and costume interact in artistic practices.
