The course provides an indepth understanding of Christian iconography and its role in European visual culture from Late Antiquity to the Reformation. By combining art historical theory with iconographic and iconological analysis, you will explore how images have functioned as expressions of faith, power, and cultural identity. You will engage with key theorists and analyse works ranging from mosaics and frescoes to illuminations and altarpieces.
