<p>This course is about the Earth as a holistic system. You will be introduced to System thinking. The main focus of the course is on the various spheres - the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere - and how they interact to create the planet we live on.</p> <p>In addition, the course addresses global environmental change from an Earth System perspective, covering different time scales. </p> <p>This Earth System Sciences course aims to provide knowledge about the Earth System as a whole and to critically analyse and evaluate society's measures to solve global environmental challenges.</p> <p>Emphasis is placed on how the various spheres influence each other and interact to create the Earth System. The course also addresses current and anticipated changes in the Earth System.</p> <p>Among other things, you will learn to:</p> <ul> <li>define basic concepts and theories in Earth System Science</li> <li>describe the links and feedback between the Earth's spheres</li> <li>the links between Earth System processes and global environmental changes</li> </ul> <p>The course is part of the Bachelor’s Programme in Earth Sciences, the course is also offered as a freestanding course.</p> <h2>Teaching</h2> <p>The teaching includes:</p> <ul> <li>lectures</li> <li>seminar</li> <li>praticals</li> </ul> <p>Language of instruction: English</p>

Entry requirements

90 credits in earth science, environmental science or geography.
