<p>This course examines English as it is encountered in popular media such as films, TV, the internet, music, etc. A multi-layered, multi-perspective approach is used to cover a broad range of topics such as standard vs non-standard English; discourse as social practice; cultural semiotics; the language of persuasion, media representations of non-standard dialects and the construction and representation identity in selected subcultures.</p>

30 credits introduction level + 22,5 credits intermediate course.
