This course builds upon introductory functional programming, focusing on advanced techniques for designing robust, maintainable, and efficient programs. Students will explore key abstractions like functors and monads to handle effects such as state and I/O in a purely functional manner. The curriculum also covers the design of embedded domain-specific languages (EDSLs), safe concurrency using Software Transactional Memory (STM), and parallel evaluation techniques based on algebraic properties. Significant emphasis is placed on practical skills in functional programming, focusing on property-based testing and equational reasoning to ensure correctness and performance. The course develops the ability to critically assess the trade-offs between abstraction and efficiency in program design.
The student should have successfully completed: - 7\.5 credits in functional programming - 7\.5 credits in discrete mathematics - 7\.5 credits more in mathematics - 7\.5 credits more in data structures Applicants must prove knowledge of English: English 6/English level 2 or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
