The course aims to provide an opportunity to deepen knowledge in a specific problem area within the field of higher education research. The course is based on the completion of an independent project which includes defining the problem, formulating objectives and research questions, searching for and compiling scientific literature, making theoretical, methodological, and ethical considerations, planning and conducting an empirical study, processing and analyzing collected empirical data, as well as presenting and discussing the study's results.

Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires an awarded bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits or an equivalent degree. Furthermore, the student must demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to English 6 (Swedish upper secondary school level) or English level 2 or an international test in English for example TOEFL or IELTS.  The student should have gone through equivalent to 15 credits method course at advanced level (2nd cycle) with approved result and with contents of relevance for teaching and learning in higher education.
